In 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Cardizem LA® (ditiazem) for the treatment of chronic stable angina.

Cardizem LA® had also been earlier approved for the treatment of high blood pressure or hypertension and is a long acting extended-release formulation of diltiazem HCl.
